I. Standard Benchmark(s) and Learning Objective:

The standard benchmarks and learning objectives that children should be learning, should be ones that meet the school or districs standards. The program standard A is used for mathmatics in the National level and the state standard is 6.13 A for the State standard. Each child should be able to meet these standards by the way you are teaching your class. To be sure the benchmark was met, the grades through out the class should be consistent, and meet the standard of that particular school. The learning objective should be a way of teaching that will enable students of all kinds to be able to capture all the information, and understand it as well. What we would do for a third grade math class is to show the students different ways of using multiplication, while making it easy to understand.

II. The Learning Environment

The learning environment should be set up so that it is easy and fun for students to learn. Instead of doing the traditional desk in rows that students have in all of their other classes, the desk should be set in a circle, with the teachers desk right in front of the chalkboard. Allowing it to look interesting and fun to learn in. This way the teacher can see all of the students faces and all of the students are able to see the teacher as well. On the side of the chalk board should be a cork board, where colorful posters with math equations such as, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division can be visible for the students. This way they are in a positive atmosphere when learning. Also on the first day of class the students should have created a times table booklet, that they are able to make and design themselves making it their own. This way it is fun for them to read it to help practice, and remember tough times tables. This type of environment helps the students think positive and enjoy learning.

Teacher student, and student student interaction is important. On Fridays students can be rewarded with their hard work throughout the week with multiplication games. This helps the students to still learn without them realizing it which I believe is important. Through out the week also teachers should have students pair off for a short period of time to work on different tough word problems. The teacher can go around to each group and assist. With time left at the end of the call each group may present their problem and the easiest way they found to solve it. Groups can be altered each time so students are able to interact with each child in the class.

III. The Learning Activities

The learning activites that the students should be learning, should meet the standard, but also be creative and fun to keep your students interested. You should be able to create ways of learing for all of your students, because not all children learn the same way. The activities that we will use to help the students understand multiplication will be a variety of different teachings. The teacher should be sure to walk around the classroom, after fully explaining the activity they are about to do. The activities for this particular subject of multiplication should be both hands on and visual. The hands on part of the activity that they will be doing, will be using cubes as a visual aid to be able to see what they are doing and make it easier to comprehend. Having hands on activities will let each student try to understand better, and figure out assignments and activities in their own way. You as a teacher should constantly be walking around the classroom observing what each child is doing, and make sure you make suggestions and challenge the child on what they are doing.
Making the classroom interesting and doing activities like using cubes and also ways of using your hands to make multiplication easier will really capture the interest of our students and make them want to learn. Showing the students little ways to make multiplication will not only help them to understand but also make the activity interesting. The main idea is to make learning fun, while meeting the schools standards. You also want to give them activities that really make them think, and let them challenge eachother with questions of who thinks they are right and who is wrong. This will allow them to talk until they agree on the best answer that they think is right. Students will do good working in groups with multiplication because when they believe they have the right answer, they can compare and if there are different answers they can bring their minds together to fix whatever they think went wrong.

IV. Assessment Strategies/Items

I believe that it is important to know what your students are learning, and what they are having problem with. The teacher should keep progress notes on each student weekly of their grades and progress learning new information. In the beginning of the class second or third day it is important that teacher hands out a quiz, not to be counted against the students, but only to help introduce to the teacher the knowledge the students have with math. The teacher can include tough problems, and easier ones. Report cards can be sent to parents to show the students progress. At the end of each lesson, a short test should be given to each student to see if they are grasping the concepts of each idea that is taught. This will allow the teacher to see if he\she must change her teaching styles to make it easier for the students to understand the material. If students are doing poorly on the test, the teacher will know that he\she must alter the way they go about teaching a lesson.

Reflections

The stradegy of incorporating games into learning, helped greatly to show the children that they will be learning even if they don't know they are doing so. It is especially important that we used different learning techniques. Some chlidren learn differently, faster, and slower than others and it's important that each student is able to comprehend all of the material that is getting taught to them. I believe it was good to have the students work alone, and also in groups. Some students are able to easily learn and remember things better when they help explain it to another student, so group work is extremely helpful.

By putting students in groups and giving them ways to make multiplication easier, will help to teach the math lesson. Students will be able to use hands on activities which makes the lesson more fun and interesting. It is a way of incorporating different teaching techniques to a variety of different studet who learn each very differently. I think the lesson plan discussed and the strategies are a good way of teaching students and is visual making the comprehension a little easier for the students.
